Nikkoken, located in Sano, Tochigi Prefecture, held a tasting event to which Muslims from Sano masjid were invited, and I was also allowed to participate.
A group of Muslims living in the neighborhood and working in Japanese companies gathered for the event. Some participants had been living in Japan for over 10 years, and there was another who had just arrived in Japan 6 months ago. Many of the participants were Muslims from Indonesia, and there were also others from Malaysia and Bangladesh. Many of the participants were also very good at Japanese and could carry on an entire conversation in Japanese – I heard that they had diligently studied Japanese very hard before coming to Japan.
The menu provided by Nikkoken consisted of three items:
– Ramen
– Teriyaki chicken
– Fried chicken
The participants seemed to like the foods with a strong taste, and the fried chicken was very popular. They ate all the dishes, exclaiming “oishii!” (which means “delicious” in Japanese). Mr. Goka, the owner of Nikkoken, was also satisfied to see their smiling faces.
Nikkoken will provide pictures of the event at a later date, so please look forward to that.
