Eat all you can the sweet and juicy Tochiotome strawberry in 30 minutes!
Last weekend my family and I went to strawberry farm for strawberry picking at Domannaka Tanuma Michi no Eki in Sano with our Japanese friends. Strawberry picking has always been one of my ‘things-to- do’ from winter to spring season. Since arriving to Japan, strawberry has become my most favourite fruit; as Japan’s strawberries is so sweet and there are a lot of strawberries breed in Japan which is so interesting.
As we arrived at Domannaka Tanuma Michi no Eki, we immediately searching for parking. Recently they have renovated the parking area to make it bigger so we managed to get a place to park within a few minutes. There are no charges applied to park your vehicles; it’s free no matter how long you park!
We already booked our session 2 weeks before we came. It is best to book as early as possible as strawberry picking is really a popular activity among Japanese and foreigners coming to Japan. There are possibilities that you can’t do the strawberry picking if you didn’t book before you come.
As we arrived at the reception, we just say our name and they checked their booklist. An adult cost 1500 yen, and no charges applied for my little son (3 years below). 700 yen will be charged for an elementary school student. After payment is done, they lead us to the green house. There are a lot of green houses, and all of them are full with strawberries!
The time given for us to stay inside the green house to eat all the strawberries that we can are only 30 minutes. They passed to us a paper cup to put the strawberry’s cap. Basket is also available to put our jacket into it, as it is hot inside the green house. The type of strawberries available here is the famous Tochiotome. The strawberries are very sweet and delicious! We only managed to eat a lot at the first 10 minutes, and then we were already full. We also took many pictures to upload at our own social media account! My son loves strawberries so much and he ate a lot, maybe a lot more than us.
After 30 minutes, we went back to the reception counter because my friend want to buy some souvenirs for her friend. Cool delivery service is also available, means you can buy and send the fresh strawberries to your friends as souvenirs.
We also spend some time at Domannaka Tanuma Michi no Eki before we went back to our home. A lot of Japanese came here especially during weekend, to enjoy with their kids at the play area or even to buy some fresh vegetables and local products at low price.
