Have you ever done Furusato nozei?
Furusato nozei is a tax reduction given to tax payers who have income in Japan when they “donate” to local municipalities they wish to support; the donation minus 2000 yen will be deducted from residential tax and income tax (There is a limit to the donation depending on income). Some municipalities send you locally produced or manufactured products, and you can choose an item of your choice.
Although there has been some Muslim-friendly products available as return gifts for Furusato nozei such as rice, fruits, and seafoods, HALAL-friendly products (beef, chicken, condiments) became available in several municipalities since about a year ago.
When you search with the keyword “HALAL” using the “Furusato Choice” website, you can search for HALAL products that you can receive from Furusato nozei as well as the municipalities that are giving them away. Also, you can find detailed information on the mechanism of Furusato nozei and the limit of deductions.

At the end of last year, me and my family decided to donate Furusato nozei to Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. I chose to this city because Zenkai meat, a company in Hitoyoshi city has been working hard to provide HALAL + beef since the early times, and I wanted to support them. I received gorgeous Japanese steak meat as a return gift. Although there was the end of year and new year holidays, the freshly processed meat arrived frozen within 3 to 4 weeks from ordering. We were very satisfied to receive high quality meat that we can seldom eat.
