Okonomiyaki to the world! OTAFUKU SAUCE got Halal certification

Okonomi sauce is indispensible for okonomiyaki. Yet, it is quite tough to find Halal one in Japan since most of them contain ingredients extracted from pork and alcohol. Now, OTAFUKU SAUCE, that is famous for Okonomi sauce, was recognized its Okonomi sauce as Halal in Malaysia.

In the beginning of March, 16 kinds of products including Okonomi sauce from OTAFUKU SAUCE were Halal-certified by JAKIM.

Why OTAFUKU SAUCE starts to produce Halal Okonomi sauce?

The reason why they asked for halal certification is derived from their mission “Okonomiyaki to the world”. To achieve this, they need to deliver Okonomi sauce to the Mulsim population, which accounts for one forth in the globe. This is the very first step to make it complete.

For now, production factory is based in Selangor, Malaysia for domestic sales to restaurants and shops while the expansion to export them to Islamic regions such as the Middle East is planed. So is Japan.

How OTAFUKU SAUCE starts to produce Halal Okonomi sauce?

To get Halal certification, all ingredient used in products also have to be Halal certified. So, they were confronted with difficulties finding ingredients in Malaysia to make the taste same as sauces in Japan. This process took almost 1 year. Instead of alcohol, animal foods, they use fish and plant foods.

In addition, Muslim staffs are in charge of executives and product leader, followed by Halal rules. Cooperation between Japanese staffs and local staffs drives its development and production. To finalize all of process required for the certification, almost 3 years had been spent.

Products

Products recognized this time were mostly famous as Japanese flavor such as “Okonomi sauce” “Yakisoba sauce” “Takoyaki sauce” “Sushi vinegar” “Ponzu” “Teriyaki sauce” and so on.
These products enable Japanese foods to be expanded in Malaysia at the same time they can be well used in Malaysian foods like Mee Goreng (Malaysian yakisoba).
