Autumn is just in the corner!

Autumn in Tokyo comes from October to late November/beginning of December that brings nice temperature around 20 degree as well as the awaited colorful autumn leaves.

Autumn leaves that varies mostly in red and yellow is one of attraction that invite crowds.

The Meiji Jingu Gaien

The Meiji Jingu Gaien is a park in central Tokyo, just a few minutes walk from Meiji shrine, that has facilities for various sports such as baseball, tennis, ice skating ring, etc. There is also park for children.

If sports is not your thing, don’t worry!
You can head over to a building called Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery where you can see original wall arts that re-tell the story of Meiji period (1868-1912).

In autumn, Ginkgo Biloba (or called Icho in Japanese) trees that lining up on the roadside of the Meiji Jingu Gaien is one of the most favorite spots for photograph.

Just a few weeks later, there will be an Icho Matsuri (Ginkgo festival) on Nov 16 (Fri) to Dec 2 (Sun) from 10:00~17:30 with free admission.

Shinjuku Gyoen

Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the largest and popular park in Tokyo, located nearby Tokyo Metro Shinjuku Gyoen-mae or Shinjuku Sanchome or JR Shinjuku station. The park provides tranquil scenery with relaxing quick-escape, like an oasis in the center of busy Tokyo.

Shinjuku Gyoen has been highly popular to visit in almost every season. It has beautiful Japanese garden, English garden, French garden (as well as greenhouse), that has different flowers bloom throughout the year.

In autumn, you can enjoy the other face of Shinjuku Gyoen where different types of trees change colors.
You can see the Momiji (maple) leaves that change colors in large numbers.

Showa Memorial Park (Showa Kinen Kouen)

Showa Memorial Park is located in Tachikawa, 30 min ride by train from central Tokyo. This park is huge is boasts with natural spaces, seasonal flowers, waterfowl lake, etc.

In autumn, this park is rich with rich fall colors and well-known with its instagrammable yet magnificent ginkgo tree canal!

Mount Takao

Mount Takao is the closest natural recreation spot in Tokyo. Even though it’s located away from the center of Tokyo, Mount Takao can be reached by 50 min ride by train from Shinjuku Station. Mount Takao has not only wide view of natural landscape, but also leisure hiking path and temples.

In autumn, Mount Takao has scattered autumn leaves that makes it popular as autumn foliage spot.
There will be Mount Takao Momiji Festival (in Japanese) held every November.

Rikugien Garden

Rikugien Garden is considered as the most beautiful Japanese garden in Tokyo. Inside the garden, there are Japanese tea ceremony house, rest area surrounded by richness of nature, beautiful lake. Numerous of maple tree in the garden makes Rikugien Garden become a popular spot in autumn when it starts to change color.

The most exciting is, Rikugien Garden has breathtaking autumn illumination that makes the garden will keep open until 21:00 during autumn.
