educational farm

Tourist farms originating in Europe (also known as educational farms) have become firmly entrenched in Japan over the past decade and various types of farms are currently operating as entertainment and education facilities all over the country.

One major tourist farm in Japan boasts 500,000 visitors and annual revenue of USD50 million a year. Visitors can stay entertained all day by touching the animals kept in the facility, milking cows, and participating in baking and cooking classes. The vegetables, milk, fruits, and meat produced at the farm are fresher than those eaten in urban areas and pesticide-free organically grown vegetables are particularly popular.

This major tourist farm, Moku Moku Farm, aims to establish a Halal food factory in Okinawa by early next year. The new factory will be built from scratch to comply with Halal law and there are also plans to export processed Japanese side dishes overseas. This means Moku Moku Farm will take advantage of Okinawa’s function as an aviation hub.

Each Japanese tourist farm has its own character and specialties differ by location. Although some farms deal with swine, they all produce fresh fruits and vegetables. There are also farms which provide accommodation so families can leisurely enjoy the Japanese countryside. If you have time, why not complement your busy shopping with some leisurely sightseeing?
